There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written or badly written. That is all. Oscar Wilde
This is where you put YOUR bookstore 'On The Map!'
List your store! The site is up and running and we now have over 1000 stores listed. Now we have to promote the site. I would appreciate it if you would pass this information on to any other booksellers you might know. The site will list any used bookstore, anywhere, (tomorrow the world!). Now that there are enough stores listed to give us some credibility, I'll be asking all the members to inform your customers about us, and customers to inform unlisted stores about us - a group effort by all of us for the benefit of all of us. The site is called <WeSellUsedBooks.com> (not case sensitive). This next part isn't active yet. (There is an area of the site that will be only for Booksellers and requires you to log in. Once you have sent in your information [and I have set up the page] your login info will be sent to you.)
HINTS ON FILLING OUT THE FORM Please read... There are a number of required fields. Some store owners don’t like to give out their email addresses. However, I need to be able to contact everyone at least once a year to make sure they are still there. If you click “NO” below the email address, where it says “ Make your email visible” then no one will see it, except me. I will not give it to anyone else or use it for anything unless it directly concerns your listing or the site. I don't put cookies on your computer or gather information about you except what is on this form, which you have complete access to and can change or delete at any time. If you have more than one store with the same name in the same town, the program will refuse the second one. You can get past that by adding a ‘2’ after the name of the second store. eg – Book Barn, Book Barn 2 If your only web presence is through Abebooks or similar, please give the entire address to get to your webpage – not just Abebooks.com, but, as in my case, abebooks.com/home/SYLVANS4MOSTBOOKSTOR/ DON’T type in the ‘http://’ part. The site has live links to your email address and webpage if you have one. Anyone interested just has to click on your website name and it will open in a new screen. Please fill in the part about wheelchair accessibility. If only parts of the store are accessible, you can click ‘Partial’. The 'specialties' boxes are for anyone to use - generalists as well as specialists. Only three spaces are given for ‘specialties’. If you have more than three, please list your main interests here. You can double up similar listings – ‘plays, poetry, literature’ or ‘civil war, WWII, WWI’ for instance, or you can list other specialties in the box at the bottom of the page. The box at the bottom of the page ‘Additional comments’, can also be used for any other information that you think would be of interest to book buyers. If you have any questions about anything at all, you can either email me at sylvan_bob@hotmail.com or through the ‘contact us’ page on the site. If you use ‘contact us’ page, please remember to include your email address. We have a forum which is for B&M storeowners only. We only discuss books and bookselling. We don’t discuss politics, religion, weather, or anything else. There are over 150 members at present, and so far everyone is very polite. This is a very pleasant experience after having spent a bit of time on the Abebooks forum. Once you have responded to this email, I will send you another email telling you how to access the forum.
This page is for people who sell books directly to the public - in person! (Hard and fast rules are for people who can't make decisions.) Exceptions WILL be considered. Currently considering smaller collections that are high quality or very specialized. Please don't exaggerate. You should have an actual store with regular hours - (by appointment only also considered) You should have at least 3000 used books. (Our book-lovers don't want to drive 10 miles to find a variety store with a shelf of old Harlequins at the back). Book-lovers can come to this site and find out where there are bookstores along their route or in their neighbourhood. They don't have to join or pay a membership to come here. All the bookstore information is freely available to everyone. Book hunters will find not just your store name, but your full address, instructions to reach your store, your hours, phone number, fax number, e-mail address and a link to your personal site if you have one. The listing will tell the number of books you have, any subjects you specialize in, forms of payment accepted and so on. As you can see, this site is just getting started. Over the coming weeks we will be adding pages for classified ads, 2 moderated forums - one with password just for dealers, and an open one for the general public. (Moderated because I want the subject matter to be strictly relevant to books and bookstores, and because I don't want offensive language, personal attacks, etc.) I have other ideas as well, which I hope to develop. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate hearing them. I want this to be the 'definitive' bookstore site, that every used bookstore will not only belong to, but check into regularly, because everything we could ever want to know about books can be accessed through this site. Don't forget to check out the 'LINKS' page - dozens of book-related links.
